Great Books Lists
Welcome to the Great Books page of my site! Here you will find a variety of lists from various civilizations, all of which are very imperfect works in progress. Making lists such as these has always been a passion of mine, and many have asked again to see the lists that I had posted on my old website, so I offer them once again, “as is.”
I welcome any and all corrections of errors, provisions of missing information, substantive suggestions for inclusion, and recommendations for deletion or omission. The project of completing lists such as this is probably illusory, but striving towards improving them is not, though it is certainly too large for any one man to achieve, so all sincere offers of collaboration will be gratefully received.
Among others, here you will find:
- A “combined” lists of Great Books of the Western World, drawn from Adler’s collection, Columbia’s core curriculum, and the lists of several other Great Books colleges.
- Vastly expanded lists (500+ and 800+) lists of Great Books of European languages, organized by language, to give visibility to the most important works that have been produced in each European tongue.
- Much too cursory lists for Middle Eastern, Indic, and East Asian civilizations.
- A proposed beginning for a new list, thematically organized, of Great Books of the World.
